Rich's Cider Farm - Feb 2025

Dining at Rich's Cider Farm
For Hild's birthday Liz treated us to lunch at Rich's Cider Farm just 10 minutes down the road from us. Hild and Liz chose the menu option "Rich's Carvery" where we chose from two meat selections with crispy roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, seasonal vegetables, stuffing, a yorkshire pudding & homemade gravy.

Rob chose a "Filled Giant Yorkshire Pudding" with two meats, crispy roast potatoes, fresh steamed vegetables, stuffing & homemade gravy. He also tried Rich's Cider Tasting Padde, which included one glass of medium cider, one vintage cider, and one sparkling cider.
After lunch we had a look around the farm shop. Outside the shop were some cleverly designed garden funiture made out of rough pieces of wood. Lovely!
Inside the store was a cider museum with various artefacts and machinery for producing the drink. Two gadgets were clearly meant to squeeze the juice out of the apples.
In the next room we found a vintage apple mill that will crush the apples before the juice is pressed out of them. The big barrel could hold 10,000 gallons of cider. The notice says that if you drink 4 pints per day, it would take you 54 years 9 months and 20 days to empty it!
After having walked through the store, we came away with three bottles: A bottle of Scrumpy for Rob, a bottle of apple juice for Hild, and a shared bottle of blackcurrant & liquorice cordial. The cordial is a bit of a challenge to drink. The flavour is more like cough syrup so we'll try it when we get our next cold
Outside the shop were two vintage tractors restored very nicely. It reminded us of our friend Gord's tractor restoration work.

Rob was also reminded of his first time driving a tractor: a Massey Ferguson at Rygnestad farm. A stressful part of the experience was realizing that there were no brakes to speak of... That's a long story for another time!

Postscript: It was so yummy. We will return again one day for sure! Remember to book a table at: https://richscider.co.uk/
