Fort Frances
This morning we went for the usual morning walk - this time along la Verendrye Parkway in Fort Frances. We can see the USA very close across the Rainy River (International Falls, Minnesota). In the olden days they used to foot, ferry, row or swim across. Now they use the bridge. We read information posters about the historical squabbles about where the border should go between USA, Ontario and Manitoba.

The river is quite flooded at the moment so we had to walk one road away from the river. Several houses seemed to have been saved by sand bags. Not fun for them.

Walking past the Resolute pulp and paper mill we were unsure if the damage was from an accident or demolition. Rob did some research later and discovered that it is caused by demonlition - Doh - we missed the action of a wrecking ball!! Read more about it here: Click
After the walk we went to a convenient nearby laundrette: Sud & Tubs. Time to do laundry while making webpage notes. Quick and easy. We loved the signe saying "Laundromat. Drop your pants here"!
Of peculiar items today we had:
  • A garden ornament with a sneaky squirrel posing as a bird house
  • Deer grazing gardens (we saw the same ones multiple times on our - and their - morning walk).
  • A weather-vane made of a moose and an old bike wheel
  • A garden ornament of a woodpecker that at first glance looked very real. It made us reach for our cameras quick, before he flew away… no wait… duh!
