Westhill, Aberdeenshire

We woke up to a morning without rain - so it was time to dry out the tent. We asked for permission to pitch our tent on the grass behind our hotel. The tent went up nicely and required some minor repairs after windy Shetland. Nothing that duct tape couldn't fix. And it dried off really quickly.

We explored a park near the hotel: Arnhall Moss Nature Reserve. It is a nice urban park with paths criss-crossing forests and meadows with a few ponds thrown in. It is one of the last remaining raised bogs in Aberdeenshire. There were information plaques promising everything from ladybirds to frogs to waxwing birds to herons and deer. Sadly we saw none of that.

We have extended our stay in Westhill by one day, and then we will pitch our tent on the shore of Loch Lomond for 3 nights. Then we'll drive back to Aberdeen, park Percy and fly to Norway for a week.

It was also time to stock up on some groceries. Tesco is right next to the hotel, and amazingly (and possibly carefully planned by Rob), we are walking distance from a Costco! We went shopping and stocked up on items such as nuts and raisins and chewy bars. Hadn't noticed before how similar Tesco and Costco logos are...

The rest of the day we spent doing some work, writing web pages, and watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel tv series. Tomorrow we'll go for a hike on nearby Brimmond Hill - and then do some laundry.
