After visiting Janet in the morning, we made sandwiches and packed our picnic
lunch. Adelheid, Rob, and Hild wanted to hike in to the cabin at Kveven.
Lots of childhood memories for Hild - and some "old age" memories for Rob!

We hiked 6.04 km including 310 metres climbing to a max elevation of 760 metres.
It took 2:55 hours including picnic break, and only 1:17 hours walking time.

At Grygjetveit cabin we stopped to talk about that fun day back in 2003
when we were here celebrating Hild's mum and dad's 40th wedding
anniversary. The photo shows Rob's parents, Richard and Vivienne,
Bjørnar and Hege, and Alvaro. At the time they were watching an
ongoing javelin competition with the rest of the family. Good times!

At Voglumtveit we stopped to check on 3 ewes and 6 lambs. Adelheid
reported to Karina that her sheep looked healthy. This was also
the spot where we would often stop for a picnic and a rest when
hiking the mountains as children. Here is a photo from 1973. From
left to right: Ragnhild with Hild on her lap, Kristin, Adelheid,
grandpa Hallvard, and Olav, Hild'd dad.

It is noticable how the old cabins are all but disappeared now in 2025.

Hild and Rob posed at another one of our childhood rest stops.
While not perched on the rock, here we are in 1974, Janet, grandpa
Hallvard, Olav, Hild and Adelheid.

In our family "Kaktusen" (the cactus) is a good trail marker to remind
us where the path splits when you need to climb quickly up to the top
of the mountain. Kaktusen looks just like in the olden days.

We did not see any moose today, but we did see evidence (tracks)
of moose. We also walked past the fun tree that doesn't seem to
have changed much over the years.

We finally got to the cabin at Kveven. We enjoyed our picnic lunch
sitting on a log in the sun. Many days have been spent at this
cabin visiting the sheep during the summer and gathering the sheep
in the autumn to return to the farm. Here is Adelheid with sheep
in 1973.

On our way back out to the car we got to the spot where there was
a wooden bridge in the good old days. All we can see now was the
stanchions. We are looking for old photos of the
bridge - to show the difference.

We spotted many pretty flowers on our trip today. They are:
Skogsstjerne, Skrubbær (bunchberry), Molte (cloudberry), Flekkmarihånd (type of orchid), Stemorsblomst (pansy),
Soldugg (sundew).

We also had a farm task to do today: putting up some more electric fence
for the cows. When we couldn't get the six-wheeler going, Adelheid used
the big tractor to carry our few pieces of fencing equpiment. The poles are made
from fibreglass so work gloves were essential.

We put in the stakes and stretched the wire along the road. The finished
result may not meet Hege's expectations. We'll see what she says!

Back at the farm Hild had another go at cuddling a rabbit...
Nope, did not work. First the cat played interference, and just after
we took this photo Hinny came tearing around the corner. Game over!

In the afternoon we finished the jigsaw puzzle. Pretty decent job
since it was quite a complex puzzle with illustrations referring to the
large body of work by Agatha Christie. Very entertaining. Thanks to
Ingunn for lending the puzzle to us.

We enjoyed an afternoon sharing icecream with Janet and then
"kompe" (potato dumplings served with fried onions, butter and sugar)
for dinner with Hege and Eirik. We were clearly were too full because
we forgot to take any photos!!
